Former Motorola Chief Executive joins BSI Board

BSI Group today announced that Sir David Brown has joined its Board as a Non-executive Director.

A seasoned international businessman and a distinguished engineer, Sir David brings extensive and relevant experience to the role.

He served as Chairman of Motorola UK from 1997 to 2008 and was also Motorola’s Global Governance Advisor with a remit spanning 68 countries and 249 legal entities.

He is a past Non-executive Director and Senior Independent Director Designate of P&O. He currently serves as Chairman of DRS Data and Research Services plc; Senior Independent Director of Ceres Power Holdings plc; and Non-executive Director of Domino Printing Sciences plc.

A Chartered Engineer by training, Sir David Brown is also a Fellow and past member of the Council of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a former President of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (2003-4), an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, a former President of the Federation of the Electronics Industry (1999–2000) and the founding President of the Chartered Quality Institute, during which time he secured the Institute’s Royal Charter status.

Sir David Brown was knighted in 2001 for services to British industry. He is a former Vice Chairman of the Board of UK Trade and Investment, spent six years on the Industrial Development Advisory Board and has chaired numerous government boards and committees.

Sir David Brown is British and 60 years old. Prior to the Motorola Chairmanship, Sir David held executive posts in Motorola, STC Telecommunications (later Nortel) and ICL. He is married with two adult sons and lives in Berkshire.
